Authorities conducted the operation in Patchogue at the intersection of Waverly Avenue and North Service Road from around 11:10 p.m. Friday, May 26, until 2:30 a.m. Saturday, May 27.
A total of 523 vehicles went through the checkpoint, Suffolk Couty Police said.
One of the motorists, Robert Jimenez, age 43, of Ronkonkoma, was charged with Leandra’s Law, aggravated driving while intoxicated, a felony offense, for having a 13-year-old child in the vehicle, and three counts of acting in a manner injurious to a child, for having children in the vehicle at the time ages 13, 15, and 16, police said.
The following were charged with driving while intoxicated:
- Erik Delosh, age 36, of Babylon
- Michael Capozucca, age 29, of Northport
- Thomas Santoro, age 25, of Holbrook
- Richard Petry, 33, of Islip
- Gina Stewart, 25, of Sayville
Victor Saquicaray, age 39, of Patchogue, was charged with operating a motor vehicle impaired by drugs.
The checkpoint was part of an ongoing enforcement crackdown targeting alcohol and drug-impaired driving.
The seven people charged will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday, May 27.
The joint operation was conducted by officers from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Highway Patrol Bureau and deputies from the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office.
